Day 20: Someone you see yourself marrying/being with in the future..
Edward Fairfax Rochester (Jane Eyre)
The charming, dashing, passionate Mr. Rochester. He could be domineering, moody and sometimes a jerk but at the least he is not some stuck-up, narcissistic man who always says the right things.. now where’s the fun in that?
I love the complexity of his character that makes him a Byronic hero.. He’s not the prince charming type like in fairy tales that has no character development. Instead, he is dynamic that changes remarkably. Like how at first he was cold and rude towards Jane but soon develops deep love and affection.
He is far from perfect. But that’s the thing I was attracted to his character from reading the book. I would like to marry someone I can grow with to be a better person.. A man of my intellectual equal who can understand my outspoken belief and insights. A man I know who would greatly value my companionship..
And I love how he gives me goosebumps from the beauty of his language. He associates taunting with affection like calling Jane “provoking puppet” or “malicious elf” while showing his desires. Quite ironic actually but very interesting compare to the usual honeyed terms..
